Memorandai Knowledge Studio 1.0.0 Gives AI a Memory — And Keeps the Context on Your Own Computer

PORTLAND, OR — August 27, 2026 — Memorandai today released Memorandai Knowledge Studio 1.0.0, a desktop application that turns scattered AI conversations, notes, and documents into a personal knowledge base that lives on the user’s own computer. The core app is free permanently — no account, no license key, no trial timer, and no internet connection required.

Though AI memory systems are now standard, knowledge of the user vanishes outside the walls of each product; users explain their project, their history, and their preferences, then start over when switching between AI interfaces. Memorandai was built to help bridge those gaps. The software ingests exports from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, and OneNote, along with PDFs and Word documents, and preserves each source’s provenance so users can always trace where something came from. Full-text and semantic search run across everything. Flow graphs let users compose multi-step work they can branch and re-run, while the Context Explorer allows spatial browsing of the user’s data from a 3D perspective. Helios, the in-app assistant, is reachable from any section with a click — and carries its own Keystones, reflections, and chat history, no matter which model is answering. Switching from Claude to a local model on your own hardware changes the engine, not what the assistant knows about you, or itself, as it develops over time.

At the center is a curated memory system built on Keystones — durable facts about the user that carry a source, a confidence level, and a freshness date. Rather than silently deciding what is true about someone, Memorandai proposes each Keystone for approval.

The application works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and xAI using the user’s own API keys, or with local models running entirely on the user’s own hardware. Roundtable puts several models in conversation on the same problem, and any MCP-capable AI assistant can read a user’s context with permission.

“Starting in early 2025 as a simple proof-of-concept of a desktop-local memory system, Memorandai has evolved substantially version-to-version,” said Gary Smith, Founder of Memorandai. “Understanding that I can’t realistically keep pace with major funded companies as a solo developer, I focused each feature on the context gaps I was seeing in my own interactions with AI elsewhere: that’s why user-curated Keystone memories and the timeline exist, and why features like Daily Insight are there to surface the connections found in the margins.”

Search, memory, import, export, and local model support are all included in the free core. An optional Memorandai Premium tier — $10 per month or $200 one-time, covering all 1.x releases — adds scheduled automations, the custom-node builder, larger roundtables, cross-profile partnerships, feeds and digests, and the writing suite. If a Premium subscription ends, nothing the user created is deleted or locked; only the ongoing automation stops. During Early Access the app used a 14-day trial unlocked with a paid perpetual license; for the 1.0.0 release that was replaced with a hybrid shareware model in which the paid tiers function as supporter tiers, gating only tangential features.

“I’ve been building Memorandai out of pocket for more than a year and a half, and any API costs incurred inside the app are paid directly to the AI provider, not to me,” said Smith. “In the Version 1.0.0 release, everything to do with memory and personalization stays free for any user. If you find the core app useful and want to support development with a paid tier, you can — but it’s entirely optional. Mostly, I hope people find the app interesting in tandem with their existing AI workflows, and embrace the concept of owning their own context.”
